Bonsai maintenance
	Exposure	The hornbeam bonsai has excellent shade tolerance making it suitable for both sunny and shady locations. Particular attention must be paid to its roots, trying to avoid winter frosts and too much direct exposure to the sun during the hottest periods of the year.
	Watering	In summer, the hornbeam needs a relatively high quantity of water due to the large mass of leaves, preventing the soil from drying out completely. A well drained sub-stratum is important as the hornbeam does not like stagnant water. If possible, rainwater should be used.
