Quercus

The natural characteristics that make it a good material for bonsai education are a strong trunk and strong roots, the base of which can be easily shaped. The trunk is pleasant especially if conical and mature. The weak point consists of the branches which swell with difficulty and if old, are easily attacked by parasites. Young branches can be shaped more easily, even if they require repeated interventions due to their flexibility. The leaves are generally small in the evergreen varieties, larger in the deciduous ones. Powerful roots, massive trunk and medium leaves give rise to wonderful large specimens.
